Printing has made keeping records and two-dimensional visualizations possible. It also removes the difficulty experienced when trying to interpret a person's handwriting. In the technical sense, a 3D printer leverages a computer-controlled process for synthesizing and constructing an object using multiple layers of different materials to do so. This process is also referred to as additive manufacturing, meaning that material layers are added successively by the printer. In order to create a 3D object, one needs a blueprint or virtual design of the object. A virtual design takes the form of a computer-aided design file (CAD). The CAD file is created by using 3D modeling software to generate a structural model of the object you want the printer to create. In other words, think of this modeling software as a digital road map that your printer will follow to produce your object. A 3D scanner can also be used to analyze a real object, convert it into an image and turn that image into a 3D model to be interpreted by your printer.

Once the model is complete, it must then be prepared for your printer. This preparation process is called slicing because the model is being divided (or sliced) into thousands of horizontal, two-dimensional layers that the printer will assemble to create the 3D object that you're after. Once the model has been sliced, its data can then be fed into your printer for construction using a USB stick, SD card, or through your wireless network connection.

Depending on the specific printer you have, several different types of construction methods may be used to produce a 3D object. The difference between these methods is determined by the way in which the individual layers of material are assembled. For example, some production methods use melting or softening of materials to produce these layers, such as fused deposition modeling (FDM). Fused deposition modeling is one of the most common printing methods. Through this method, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or another type of thermoplastic material is melted and deposited in layers through a heated extrusion nozzle to build a 3D object. By contrast, the stereolithography method does not melt materials. Instead, this process focuses an ultraviolet (UV) laser onto a vat of photopolymer resin using a computer-aided design (CAD) file as a guide.

A photopolymer is a large molecule whose properties change when exposed to light. The UV laser is used to draw a pre-programmed design onto the surface of the photopolymer vat. The photopolymer then solidifies wherever the UV light beam touches it, allowing the light to print an object layer by layer. The construction methods and materials used depend on the type of printer you've chosen. Thermoplastics and metal alloys are the most common materials used by 3D printers to produce objects.

The earliest 3D printing apparatuses were introduced in the 1980s during a time when this technology was referred to as rapid prototyping. Charles W. Hull invented the first 3D printer in 1986 using the stereolithography method of object creation. Hull also co-founded 3D Systems Corporation, which still innovates and distributes professional 3D printer technology today.

By the middle of the 1990s, new techniques for material deposition by these printers were invented, including micro casting and spraying materials. Throughout the 2000s, additive manufacturing processes continued to mature with a growing focus on the home consumer market and lower costs for the printer technology. Since 2010, the average cost of a 3D printer has decreased considerably, allowing hobbyists to fulfill their dreams of owning the technology. #9.XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro. (3D Printer/ Laser Engraver - Optional Add-On For $199)


Definitely loving it, ZERO config to start printing, no need to calibrate anything, it worked right out of the box. I didn't even need to install drivers on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. It comes with a CD-ROM which contains the software used to send your 3D drawings to the printer. You can also download it from their website. As soon as I connected it found a new firmware, downloaded it and installed it.
Moderate noise, it is not quiet, and I was not expecting so, the amount of noise does not bother me, but at night I do close the door from. I'm sure some people will complain about the noise level, in my opinion, is normal.

#8.Original Prusa i3 3D Printer kit from Josef Prusa


This is really a solid printer. The kit came with everything you need to assemble it, all in organized packaging, and an instruction manual that had detailed steps to assemble every part of it (If you can read, look at pictures, and use a wrench, you can put this together). Calibration is easy, especially if you followed the instructions in the build process, and I had it printing an hour after assembling it. So far, I've only printed in ABS and PLA, so I'll update the review as I go. I printed as low as 50 microns, but that was just playing around and it looked really good. As far as print quality, it's really on the user 100%. There's no factory defect to blame things on, so you need to set it up right from the start, which, fortunately, is easy to do. Easier in some ways than Lego kits.

#5.LulzBot TAZ 6 3D Printer


I've been following 3D printing for a while now but I have always been on the fence for a few reasons:

1. Assembly - most problems I see from new printers is from the quality of assembly, either from a kit or poor manufacturing. The Lulzbot Mini was superbly assembled and I experienced no problem from the very first print.
2. Openness - A lot of the well-manufactured printers are closed source, Lulzbot Mini isn't.
3. Features - To get a heated bed and some sort of auto-leveling you needed to pay a lot of money, the Mini is relatively inexpensive.

This is my first printer. When I saw this one, I was totally attracted by its beautiful appearance. The black color is so classic and it has 4 doors to open, making it very easy to use and clean. Now I just put it in my studio to work for me with no worry about the noise, it is quiet. After a night’s work, my designs finished. I really enjoy finding the amazing prints in every morning. I need to set the parameters ahead in STL file, then the print precision is high. Now I print something easy, but I will challenge the complex ones in following days.

This is my first 3D printer, and it was pretty easy to set up and has been great to use and learn with. The onboard camera helps me keep an eye on the prints in case I input incorrect settings, and I can even pause or abort prints across the wifi network!
I had been waiting for the right 3D printer to come out that made more complex or even impossible prints possible because of dual extrusion and the water soluble filament. The wait is over, this printer can do it all!

I'll start out by saying that I am only an amateur when it comes to 3D printing. I had no real prior knowledge about it but knew that it was something that I wanted to get into. The Creator Pro by FlashForge has been really great in the few months I've had it. If you're new to 3D printing, prepare yourself to be frustrated, in the best way possible. Trust me, though. If you're passionate about this, it is extremely rewarding once you familiarize yourself with everything.

#1.MakerGear M2 Desktop 3D Printer


This is an amazing printer for the price. The simplicity and rigidity of the design allow this printer to produce accurate prints and do so repeatedly. I've run this machine non-stop for weeks without a single hiccup. I was pleased upon receiving my M2 to find all steel and aluminum construction, a sturdy power supply, a rugged and easy to disassemble hot end, and the guys at MG were even kind enough to include a sucker in the kit. Was a nice touch. It is rare to find a machine that just does what it is supposed to do, without any unnecessary bells and whistles.
