A lot of the negative reviews on here say that their strap failed on the highway and/ or on long trips. Never trust the straps, they are only made to keep the bikes from sliding around on the rack. ALWAYS bungee your bikes to the rack and to themselves if you have more than one. Bungee cords are cheap. Bikes are expensive. Do the math.
Was using a Schwinn /saris 2 bike trunk rack for the last couple years. Served me well except being car has a spoiler getting 2 bikes on was a pain. Especially my 29er ht and my sons 20" mtb together. Plus with my cobalt with trunk rack this way bikes sat very high and killed gas mileage on longer trips
This heavy-duty platform-style rack is designed as a 2 + 2 system so it can be easily converted to hold either two bicycles or four bicycles. It mounts on a 2-inch hitch and folds flat against the back of a vehicle when not in use. The rack uses padded universal top clamps and adjustable wheel holders. Bikes need simply to be dropped into the wheel holders and clamps slid down onto the frames. Velcro wheel straps add security. To prevent rack sway, the hitch system is "no-wobble/no-tools" and includes a locking pin and 9-foot security cable. The rack carries a limited warranty against defects.
This rack works great. I got the 5 bike version, but only install 4 bikes. No problem with fitting 4 (2 adults and 2 kid bikes). It very studies. I've had it on for 3 months and has worked like a charm. We use it almost every weekend and no problems. Not the cheapest one out there, but I'm glad that I paid up for the quality.
While some say it's impossible to improve upon perfection, the folks at Kuat would beg to disagree. The all-new NV 2.0 hitch rack has taken one of the most popular and bestselling bike transportation solutions and made it even better. Every feature has been overhauled and streamlined to make it easier to use. The all-new pivot system now features a foot assist, so you can lower the rack without having to lean your bike up against anything, while an adjustable cradle can now allow for fat bikes or longer wheel bases.
The Allen rack boasts a patented tie-down system and individually cradles up to four bikes in the 22-inch carry arms. As easy to install as it is to use, the rack sets up in less than 5 minutes with a no-wobble bolt that holds it still within the hitch. When the rack is not in use, the carry arms quickly drop out of the way and fold down flat with a patented single pin mechanism and the rack tilts up to allow easy access to the lift gate.
